Introductiion of Hawaii Palms English School Teachers
Javier has been part of the Hawaii Palms family since 2009. He is a
TEFL certified teacher with vast international teaching experience -- he has taught in Japan, Turkey, Korea, Mexico, Peru, and Taiwan. Students love Javier's classes because of his ability to explain difficult concepts in a clear way. He is very kind and patient, and he helps organize weekly tours around Oahu that are very popular with our students. Javier is also the coordinator of our monthly inter-island excursions.
Cristin comes from the Windy City, Chicago. She studied
Visual Arts, Humanities and French at Eckerd College in Florida, and spent a year abroad in in Southern France. After teaching English in Japan for 8 years, and spending some time traveling India, her husband and her decided to fulfill their dream and move to the Land of Aloha. Cristin has 10 years of experience working with all levels of students (from beginners to advanced) and all ages (from babies to seniors). Her interests include art, travel, yoga and reading. She is also a licensed massage therapist. Cristin is passionate about helping
her students learn and grow and often spends time with them outside of class.
Ty is from Seattle and has over 5 years of combined experience teaching EFL English overseas and in Hawaii. Ty holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Ethnic Studies from the University of Washington. Students love to chat with him because of his outgoing personality and unique perspectives of having lived overseas while learning a new language. Ty teaches private and intensive English lessons, and he also organizes weekend activities, such as stand-up padding, surfing lessons, and hikes. He believes that the most important aspect of learning English in Hawaii is through contact with the islands' diverse residents and getting to know what the great local lifestyle has to offer.
Yumiko received her BA in Second Language Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She has a wide array of English teaching experience in Japan and Hawaii for adults and children, she is a Survival English specialist, and she also teaches Japanese lessons. Yumiko has lived in Hawaii for several years and is a great source for Hawaiian cultural or island information. She is a freelance interpreter and can translate Japanese and English simultaneously. Yumiko is also fluent in Spanish and the business manager of HPES.
Ian is from San Francisco, California. He has an M.A. in psychology and a University of Cambridge CELTA certificate. He taught English in China, specializing in business and technical English for employees of multi-national organizations in Shanghai and Qingdao. He first came to Hawaii in 2010, to sail yachts back to California. He fell in love with Hawaii, especially because there are people from so many cultures. He enjoys teaching at HAWAII PALMS because the students of all ages are happy and eager to learn. He also finds that the other teachers and the staff are very helpful and friendly. He's looking forward to seeing you in class!
Richard is from "Wild, Wonderful West Virginia" and has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary, Speech, Social Studies, and Elementary Education as well as a Masters in Special Education. His love of people and travel has taken him to various places, where he had the chance to teach and inspire students of all ages and abilities. Richard has spent over 11 years as a resident of Bangkok, Thailand, where he taught in the Faculty of Humanities at The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce. He loves meeting new people and teaching his students English "with the Aloha that only Hawaii can offer".
Lyndsey is originally from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She has a BA in Communications, a minor in Business, and has her ESL Certificate from
TEFL International in Seville, Spain. Lyndsey began her EFL teaching career as a volunteer in Huatulco, Mexico. She then taught Special Education at the High School level in Colorado while finishing her teaching credentials. In 2006, she was recruited to Hawaii to teach geometry and English as an inclusion teacher. She is now very excited to be a part of HPES and enjoys spending time with the students in and out of class. She is always available to answer any questions and to help guide the students with many different activities.
Keiko is from Kanagawa, Japan. She has lived in Hawaii for 6 years. In her freetime, she loves to play golf. She’s great at taking care of our students. She helps students find accomodation and also organizes the kids program. She works hard to make students’ lives easier.
Tamaho is from Tokyo and has spent 5 years in Hawaii. Her hobby is eating gourmet food, and she will always direct you to the best places. Always friendly and smiling, she thinks the most important thing is good communication with students. She can help you by answering any questions about our intensive classes, elective classes and registration.
